Joe Makholm is a jazz composer, pianist, trombonist and author of Jazz Tonique for piano, and Jazzosphere for clarinet and alto sax; two pedagogical collections used in music schools in France, Europe and the US.

His compositions, inspired by the formal rhythms and harmonies of modern jazz, include the Trois Impressions for solo piano (included in the piano syllabus of Royal School of Music in the UK) and Trois Réflexions for solo piano, published in France by G. Billaudot were recorded by the pianist Willis Delony for the label, Centaur.

Since 2004, he has been the artistic director of Cap Jazz, a series of jazz conference/concerts he founded in the same year and which is sponsored by the Centre Chopin and the Town Hall of the 20th district of Paris.
